Encompass car insurance review

Bankrate's insurance editorial team, which includes licensed agents with decades of industry experience, took a close look at Encompass Insurance to help you make the best decision for your own car insurance. The company earned a Bankrate Score of 3.4 out of 5 for its vehicle coverage options.

Although Encompass isn't ranked by J.D. Power and has mixed reviews from customers online, the company could be a good choice if you want to keep your insurance needs simple and pay one deductible for both home and car insurance — something that not all insurers offer. The company's EncompassOne Policy comes with several potential levels, allowing you to customize your coverage to suit your needs.

Encompass offers a range of coverage options and discounts that may appeal to some individuals. These include endorsements such as new car replacement and gap coverage. Upgrading to the company's Elite auto coverage will give you enhanced accident forgiveness, which can be used for multiple at-fault accidents.

How much is Encompass car insurance?

Your driving history can have a significant impact on how much you pay for car insurance. For instance, having a speeding ticket or an at-fault accident on your record may prevent you from getting the cheapest car insurance rates. Keep in mind, if the incident was recent, it may not immediately show on your motor vehicle record, which could impact your rates when the policy is issued or at the next renewal. Not all carriers offer policies to new customers with a DUI on their record. If you have a DUI or new driving activity, contact an Encompass agent for more information and quotes specific to your driving history.

Encompass Insurance car insurance quotes by age

In most states, age and driving experience can heavily influence the cost of your auto insurance. Teen drivers tend to pay the most for car insurance as they have less driving experience behind the wheel than older age groups. However, teens and inexperienced drivers can save the most money by staying on their parents' policy for as long as possible. While parents will likely see a premium increase when a new driver is added to their existing policy, mom or dad's driving experience and age factors will help keep that overall cost associated with the new driver much lower than if they were listed on their own policy.

Encompass home insurance review

After reviewing Encompass home insurance, we’ve issued this product a Bankrate Score of 3.7 out of 5.0. While the company does offer more homeowners discounts compared to some other competitors, its overall average base premiums are higher than average. Additionally, the company does not offer online claims filing, which some homeowners may find inconvenient.

Like its car insurance policies, the EncompassOne policy for homeowners insurance also comes in three tiers: Special, Deluxe and Elite. There are unique policy features for each tier, along with discounts and policy limits. For example, the Elite and Deluxe homeowners tiers come with 200 percent extended dwelling coverage. Some other customizable options include water backup protection, mortgage rate protection if your mortgage is affected due to a covered total loss, and computer and data recovery coverage.

With Encompass, you can also customize your home policy with add-ons like enhanced replacement cost coverage, which will pay to rebuild your home after a covered loss, even if the cost is higher than the insured amount. Encompass also offers mortgage rate protection. If you must get a new mortgage after a total loss and the interest rate is higher than your previous rate, Encompass will cover up to $20,000 in increased costs for acquisition fees, closing costs and other fees.

Is Encompass Insurance a good insurance company?

Bankrate established itself as a trusted voice in the financial services space as a print publication in 1976. At that time, we were called the Bank Rate Monitor. We've evolved over the decades and now help millions of readers make sound decisions regarding their mortgages, investments and insurance, among other important topics. Members of our insurance editorial staff are licensed agents, and we use our real-life industry knowledge to conduct extensive company reviews each year.

Encompass may be a good insurance company to consider if it’s available in your state. However, it has limited third-party customer reviews and scores, which can make it more challenging to determine whether the carrier will meet your needs. Encompass offers numerous insurance products, and its EncompassOne policy may be an attractive and affordable option for some. However, it has higher-than-average complaints with the NAIC compared to the industry average.

What are real-life customers saying about Encompass?

With a company like Encompass that doesn’t have J.D. Power ratings, finding reviews from current policyholders can be vital when deciding what insurance company to trust with your most valuable assets. Bankrate reviewed multiple review sites and social media platforms so we can provide you with accurate and updated information in a condensed manner.

Possibly because Allstate purchased Encompass and there are currently undergoing internal changes throughout the company, there aren’t many reviews available for Encompass dated within the past couple of years. Reviews on Yelp show that customers are very unhappy with the claims and customer service they are receiving, with a significant focus on lack of communication and claim payout amounts. However, reviews dated before 2018 reflect a much better experience.

Trustpilot only has one review for Encompass and that one, too, points to a lack of communication and quality of customer service as a major sticking point. Users on Reddit are mostly concerned with the future of Encompass and if the rebranding of the company will impact availability. In this situation, picking up the phone and speaking directly to an Encompass agent may give you the most realistic impression of what doing business with this company is like.

  • Renters insurance: As a renter, this policy type provides coverage for your personal belongings, liability and loss of use.
  • Personal umbrella policy: With a personal umbrella policy, you can extend the liability coverage of your home and car insurance to further protect your financial assets.
  • Identity theft protection: This coverage option could pay up to $20,000 for recovering damages and fees if your identity is stolen.

  • Home business insurance: Covers liability, medical expenses and more for a home-based business.
  • Auto policy extras: The Deluxe policy includes free windshield repairs, first-time accident forgiveness and electronic equipment coverage. The Elite package offers unlimited accident forgiveness, auto trip interruption, roadside assistance, company car protection and other features of the Deluxe plan.

Bankrate Score

Our 2025 Bankrate Score for auto insurance considers key variables that our insurance editorial team determined impact policyholders’ experiences with an insurance company. These factors include a robust assessment of each company’s cost of coverage, product availability, financial strength ratings, online capabilities and customer and claims support accessibility. We grouped these factors into three essential categories — cost and ratings, coverage and savings, and support — which we then weighted in a tiered approach.

Each category was assigned a metric to determine performance, and the weighted sum adds up to a company’s total Bankrate Score — out of 5 points. Our scoring model provides a comprehensive view, indicating when companies excel across several key areas and highlighting where they fall short.

50% Cost & ratings

30% Coverage & savings

20% Support

  • Tier 1 (Cost & ratings): To determine how well auto insurance companies satisfy these priorities, our team analyzed quoted premiums from Quadrant Information Services (if available), as well as any of the latest third-party agency ratings from J.D. Power, AM Best, Demotech and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).
  • Tier 2 (Coverage & savings): We assessed companies’ coverage options and availability to help policyholders find a provider that balances cost with coverage. Additionally, we evaluated the discount options listed on each company’s website.
  • Tier 3 (Support): To encompass the many ways an auto insurance company can support policyholders, we analyzed avenues of customer accessibility along with community support. This analysis incorporated additional financial strength ratings from S&P and Moody’s and factored in a company’s corporate sustainability efforts.

Tier scores are unweighted to show the company's true score in each category out of a possible five points.

In collaboration with market research firm SliceMR, Bankrate surveyed over 3,000 insurance customers nationwide from 2024–2025, asking policyholders to rate their insurer's cost, coverage, customer support and overall experience on a five-point scale. Bankrate and SliceMR collected and analyzed these customer ratings, along with website analytics and responses to three open-ended questions regarding customer experience. Responses are based on individual policyholders' policy details and personal experience, and therefore cannot be verified for accuracy. Users received an incentive for their feedback. All ratings are unedited and have not been reviewed or approved by insurance carriers. User-generated ratings are separate from carrier Bankrate Scores — which are calculated based on our proprietary methodology — and may not match.

I do not have direct contact with Encompass. My agent has done everything. They had the best rates I could find. They did not cover a crash that was not my daughter’s fault, but I blame my agent. I wish Encompass had their own agents that know the products and systems well..

I chose this option because it was very affordable and something that I trusted whereas in other places it wasn't affordable to keep up.
